European Professionals Network (EPN) organized a brunch at the Holiday Inn Hasselt on Jan 26, 2014 hosting professionals from the business world with the guest speaker of Dr . Parla Astarci, cardiovascular surgeon at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Brussels.
Following the brunch, Dr. Astarci, who has received a patent for the design of a special device for excision of the heart valves, began his lecture about the major cardiovascular diseases in our society and talked about a number of factors that increase the risk of such diseases as well as about the measures that should be taken to reduce the risk. Showing example pictures from his surgeries, the doctor also talked about the adverse effects of tobacco, cholesterol, diabetes and alcohol on the human body. The participants asked a number of questions, making the event an interactive one.
